Frequency-domain estimators are presented for application in the field of flight flutter analysis. Flight flutter tests are expensive and not without risks even when approached with caution. The complete session of flight tests must be as fast as possible but this often results in low quality data. It has been shown that this goal can be obtain by means of frequency-domain estimators by introducing transient polynomials. By doing so, small records can be processed without suffering from leakage. An advantage of frequency domain estimators is the fact that the quality of the data can be taken into account via a frequency weighting function. A proper frequency weighting turns out to be important to reduce the variability of the damping estimates. All proposed estimators are based on a common-denominator discrete-time transfer-function model. These models are well conditioned and optimized algorithms have been design to reduce the computation time. Dedicated frequency-domain estimators are presented to estimate and track the modal parameters as a function of the flight conditions.
