In this study, the effectiveness of the hybrid system using Constant Pressure Hydraulic System (CPS) is evaluated, In the city traffic, vehicles are required to start and stop frequently. Therefore, the engine often runs in its low efficiency area. So, the CPS hybrid vehicle is studied. This paper shows the experimental and simulation results. The efficiency of this system depends on the performance of the hydraulic pump/motor. Various methods have been investigated to keep the operation of the pump/motor at the high performance point and compared the fuel economy with that of conventional vehicle. In the experiment with full-scaled vehicle, this system could recover 73% of vehicle kinetic energy at driving about 20 [km/h]. From simulation, the recovery rate of 78% was obtained. From these recovery rates obtained from the experiment and simulation, the validity of the simulation model is confirmed. The simulation model was applied to 10mode driving. It is realized from simulations that CPS hybrid vehicle has the possibility which it can advance fuel economy to 23.5[km/l] (that of conventional vehicle is about 8-9[km/l]). However, the on-off control method could not implemented to the actual equipment, since the change of displacement is too rapid. In the future, it is intended to experiment at 10mode with full-scaled model.
