The focus of our research is to explore the possibility for designing and fabricating a new electromagnetic suspension (EMS-MAGLEV) model with high temperature superconductors (HTS). The magnets of our model were designed to possess 250-kg vertical suspension force. The cross sectional shapes and the configurations of HTS magnets were analyzed with FEM and evolution strategies. The design variables are the cross sectional dimensions of the HTS magnets. The restriction conditions include the anisotropic Jc-Bc-Tc curves of Bi-2223 superconducting tape, as well as the saturation of iron cores and iron tracks. A size-reduced EMS-MAGLEV testing model verified the effectiveness of above analyses experimentally.
