A nitrogen-alloyed, high-manganese, austenitic stainless stell (AISI 204M) was compared with the conventional metastable austenitic stainless steel (AISI 201L). Analysis of strength and ductility showed that the 204M alloy has about 10% higher mechanical properties than 301L. Formability, weldability, and corrosion resistance are similar. Stamped and hydroformed parts demonstrated that 204M also has high ductility.
