In this paper, the experiments were conducted for application of ammonia to fuel cell vehicles. The catalyst temperature is 800 degC, the pressure in the dissociator is 100kPa, and the space velocity is 600 to 3000 1/h for the optimized dissociating condition. Three hundred ppm of the residual ammonia from the dissociator can be reduced to about 0 ppm using the ammonia separator in which the refinement water temperature is 40 degC or less. The disposing time is depending on space velocities. The fuel cell vehicle equipped with the ammonia dissociator is possible to be efficiently operated based on the experiments and the calculations. This system recovers the waste heat and latent heat of ammonia inheat exchangers. The small vehicle with an output of 30 kW needs 11 kW from electric heaters in starting up and 1kW in operating continuously. Moreover the system can be applied not only to vehicles but also to various fields like portable generators or residential cogeneration systems. Ammonia will be an alternative fuel for fuel cells in terms of environmental issues in the future.
