This paper considers two different radar sensors in the 24 GHz frequency domain. The first one is a high range resolution (HRR) pulse radar measuring only the target range but with extremely high resolution and accuracy. The second system measures target range and azimuth angle simultaneously based on the monopulse radar (MR) technique. These two radar sensors are used to establish different radar networks with a large coverage for automotive applications. To compare these radar networks a position estimation algorithm has been developed that estimates the object position with different measurement data sets delivered by the presented networks. This algorithm is analyzed in detail and a comparison criterion is derived from it. Finally, the position estimation performances of the radar networks are compared quantitatively in accuracy and resolution.
