The paper describes the UMRR-S sensor, which has been developed for automotive applications in a co-operation between Volkswagen AG and smart microwave sensors GmbH as a derivative of the UMRR platform. The sensor is able to operate in the 24GHz ISM band and is applicable for Advanced Driver Assistance System functions. It can run both in UWB Pulse- and in a number of Narrowband FMCW Modes. It can be part of a network formed of several UMRR-S sensors, or integrated into an existing sensor network, for instance in combination with a 77GHz long range radar. Different types of antennae are available. Concept, technical and performance data of the sensor are given. Advanced features like object generation out of individual radar reflectors from one physical object are described.
