After conducting an exhaustive search to identify the best remotely operated vehicle (ROV) to support its marine science research program, the University of Bremen selected the Quest, an electric 4,000-meter-rated work-class ROV from Schilling Robotics. The Quest 5 was purchased in 2002 by the university's MARUM Center for Marine Environmental Research. The system was delivered in 2003, and has begun to participate in the university's coordinated research programs, including the newly funded DFG Research Center for Ocean Margins. The Quest offers innovative technical features that make it an ideal platform for marine science and deepwater research. Particularly, the Quest was chosen for the system's usability within the existing German marine research infrastructure; the combination of power, positioning accuracy and auto control features; adaptability to marine science missions; and data distribution and control capabilities.
