The computation of elastic and elastic-plastic rolling contact problems between wheel and rail for various cases which includes different wheel diameters and diameter axle loads was discussed. The contact states and the contact internal force between wheel and rail were studied. The relation between the change of driving torque and the longitudinal tangential force of contact spot was elaborated. Results shows that with the axle load increased, the contact spot area was enlarged, which contributed to enhancing adhesive utility of the locomotive.
