Multibase, a Dow Corning company, is a supplier of thermoplastic elastomers providing a range of differentiated elastomeric solutions. This paper will give a brief introduction to the Multibase product range, with the focus an new areas of development and new commercialised products. TPSiV or Thermoplastic Silicone Vulcanisates are a range of silicone based thermoplastic vulcanisates with high heat performance and good chemical resistance. TPSiV materials extend the current temperature use of TPE's to 150 deg C, in a range of durometers, chemically resistant and with a unique soft touch and feel. They have applications in both automotive and speciality industries. Multiflex TEA materials are alloys of an elastomeric phase and a thermoplastic phase. These polar thermoplastic elastomers are particularly suitable for over moulding onto engineering plastics, and exhibit excellent resistance to automotive oils, good abrasion resistance, and have a continuous use temperature of up to 130 deg C. Some products can be welded by high frequency welding, in a similar way to PVC. Multiflex TEA materials can be used in under the hood (UTH) applications as well as automotive exterior and interior. Multibase is currently pushing the boundaries of SEBS based TPE's. A new range under development is expected to exhibit a compression set as low as 30 % at 125 deg C combined with an excellent colour stability even after UV ageing.
