This is a study on control performance of driver-vehicle system when the torsional rigidity of an EPS system is designed a low level. First, influences on control performance caused by a low rigidity of the EPS system are examined using simulations of driver-vehicle system. Then, problems against the driver and effects of a new proposed EPS construction for solving these problems are discussed. Next, transfer functions and frequency responses of those EPS systems are analyzed focusing on differences of the EPS constructions. As a result, it has been theoretically confirmed that control performance with the EPS system whose rigidity is set to low is improved by the new EPS construction in which a torque sensor is installed to directly below the steering wheel.
