An engine model in MATLAB/SIMULINK is introduced in this paper for hybrid motorcycle development. The power unit is a 125 cc four-stroke spark ignition engine. Two approaches for engine torque calculating are proposed: one is torque function model and the other is heat release model. Both two approaches predicted the engine torque so precise. The previous one is simple for predicting the engine torque. The latter one provides the information of engine combustion. The calculated results of bmep, imep, fmep, heat release rate, and cylinder pressure were compared with the experimental data. It shows that the modeling process is close to reality.
