The paper will present an integration concept which is based an a LIN optimized 4-bit Dual-Task RISC microcontroller together with the possibility of high voltage integration (12V and 42V boardnet). This enables the complete integration of LIN-transceiver, voltage regulator, ADC, microcontroller and application specific parts on one chip at a cost level of optimized state machines. This concept combines the benefits of powerful, robust and cheap LIN state machines with the flexibility of small conventional microcontroller solutions. The MLX4 Dual-Task CPU consists of 2 independent register sets which can simultaneously run both the whole LIN protocol an one task and the application an the other task. Both tasks run completely independent from each other and there are no influences of the LIN to the application and vice versa. With this CPU concept we have functions of a RtOs integrated in silicon, which is easy to use, robust and extremely fast for event processing. Therefore it perfectly fits to LIN applications.
