More and more automobile manufacturers are embracing the luxury car market to meet the increasing demand for vehicles in the premium class and for special clientele specified vehicles. Current trends in the automobile industry therefore demand much more variants with different design and with higher material specifications, in parts produced by deep drawing. Conventional deep drawing is pushed to its limits by new development trends in the automobile industry for the economic forming of parts with more individuality in very small lot sizes. In order to meet these demands Active Hydromechanical Forming (AHMF), a sheet metal forming process which uses fluid as the working medium is developed. At present, the start of series production using the new AHMF technology is carried out successfully. Research done in feasibility studies showes that there is tremendous potential for AHMF technology in novel application areas of deep drawing. In the future more and more complex parts will be designed by the automotive industry and in this case the new technology can demonstrate its advantages.
