Bertrandt has many years' experience as one of the first RP and RT suppliers in Europe, offering its customers selected and established rapid technologies for creating plastic prototypes: - Selective Laser Sintering (SLS); fast availability is the big advantage of sintered prototypes. Customers receive their SLS parts within two or three working days after providing 3D CAD data. This is a very good instrument for presenting results at a final construction meeting since the constructor gets a far better impression of this data when he can hold the part in his hand. - Stereolithography (SLA); not only materials for the sintering process were significantly improved during the last few years but also photo-polymers for the stereolithography procedure. The first photo-polymers, consisting of acrylates, were very sensitive and refractory. Today, resins used in the SLA-process are epoxy resins for different applications - even rubber elastic resin-systems have been developed. The huge range of applications of SLA and of SLS are approximately similar today because of improvements in mechanical and thermal properties. - Vacuum casting; polyurethane resins are multilaterally applicable as a substitute for thermoplastic materials. The big advantage of silicon moulds is to mould undercuts without loose inserts. Another advantage about this procedure compared with the SLA and SLS process is the variable setting for the degree of hardness for materials. - Low pressure RIM; beside vacuum casting with silicon tools Bertrandt established the 'reaction injection moulding' (RIM) process based on low pressure a couple of years ago. Different from the serial high-pressure RIM process fast hardening polyurethane resin will be injected manually with pressures between 1 and 5 bar into the hard tool. Because of low injection pressures, this procedure needs low clamping forces, without elaborate presses. - Rapid tooling: aluminium filled epoxy tools; Bertrandt has six years experience in building aluminium filled epoxy tools. The advantages of epoxy tools can be abstracted as follows: - short time in building the tool. Delivery time for the first injection moulding parts of 10 to 30 working days, depending on size and complexity of the part - more cost-efficient as prototypes out of aluminium or steel tools - both small and large injection moulding parts are suitable. - Rapid tooling: HSC-milled aluminium tools; Aluminium tools are more than a supplement to epoxy tools in the prototyping process. It is the transition to a serial tool, where the technology is fast progressing. In a period between two and 10 weeks, aluminium tools can be built, depending on size and geometry. Not only high-quality prototypes concerning dimensional and surface accuracy can be done, but also small series of up to 10,000 piece injection moulding parts with grained surface in serial quality.
