Fuel Cell Vehicles (FCV) are expected to be a future generation of vehicles that will significantly reduce fuel consumption and exhaust emissions including C02. There are 2 types of FCV: a direct hydrogen-type and a reformer-type. The system configuration and characteristic are described. A lot of problems remain to be solved before introducing FCV to the market. Major issues and future directions are overviewed. Finally, the roles of control system in developing FCV, such as rapid developing methods are described. FCV are thought as an ultimate solution for their environment friendly property and high energy efficiency. There are a large number of issues to be solved and a great deal of development must occur before the popularization of FCV takes place. Control system development is the key factor for the success of the advanced development of FCV. In order to improve development speed and quality, SIL, HIL and seamless circumstance are valuable for new and large size control system development, such as FCV.
