This paper investigates the characteristics of mitigating lateral vibration by using a Tuned Liquid Damper (TLD) for an offshore jacket platform. In this study, the random wave force acted on the platform is calculated through the linearized Morison equation. The platform is model as a simplified single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) system by extracting its first vibration mode of the structure. First the nonlinear oscillations of the liquid in the TLD tank are investigated via shallow water wave theory under harmonic vibration. Then TLD-SDOF system interaction model is developed where the dynamical force is determined from shallow wave theory. Effectiveness of TLD on reducing vibration of offshore platforms is presented for random wave excitation.
