A fabric that directs the flow from a supply to a distribution manifold in an automobile's air-conditioning unit is the subject of US Patent 6383959. Milliken & Co says the fabric includes apertures to allow for different combinations of airflow directions at different longitudinal positions. The coated fabric has warp and fill yarns combined in a satin weave and is positioned such that the float of the fill is oriented in the longitudinal direction of the fabric. The fabric acts as a baffle to divert airflow within the supply manifold. It is an air-impermeable material with a longitudinal direction, a transverse direction and a glide surface. The sheet of fabric is perforated by a series of apertures in selected positions. When in use the fabric is positioned between the supply manifold and the distribution manifold, which itself includes a series of separate passages that serve to distribute conditioned air from the supply to various positions inside the vehicle. The glide surface of the fabric passes over the supply manifold in the longitudinal direction.
