In novel automotive architecture design there is the need to manage a significant increase in functional integration. Up to now functional oriented small local control systems have been used for the physical integration of the logical functional network in the car. In general, implementations led to 'loosely' coupled control systems. The topology of bus structure in the actual BMW 7 series consist of three major domains: CAN-network: K-CAN system, K-CAN periphery, PT-CAN; MOST ring network: telematics, MMI, audio and video electronics; byteflight star network: Safety-electronics steering wheel driver input. The communication between these domains is handled by gateways. The future demand will connect many functions of the above described three domains. Navigation function will be in logical connection to guidance and stabilization systems in a closed loop system. For the realization bywire technology will be integrated in the car. The networking at this level is frequently labeled to be extremely complex and shows similarities to the stability of cascaded/nested PID control systems. As startup with respect to oSAR a standard software core for a number of hardware platforms have been established on the basis of OSEK/VDX standards. The architecture model of this standard core for the CAN network will be briefly described. The interface to the application is fixed. The system does not yet include hardware abstraction layers. It is important to note that the communication matrix in this standard software implementation is generated by file read out from the central database. This forms together with the standardized interface an important basis in the architecture development process. For the MOST and byteflight domains similar architecture models do apply. The above mentioned characteristics of oSAR have to enable the control task in the architecture design - the allocation of the functional network to the proper set of centralized and decentralized computing power with redundancy design and activation. The data communication between nodes allow a classification into two parts: asynchronous transmission and deterministic transmission.
