Today digital simulation tools are commonly used to increase the efficiency of product development processes. RAMSIS is an ergonomic modeling tool to support the design process of cockpits with main emphasis on ground vehicles. This tool, among other features, predicts body postures complying with given tasks and digital three-dimensional manikins. The manikin's body measurements result from correlations found in anthropometric data bases which consider for example nationality, age groups and growth acceleration of the according population. Today RAMSIS is widely used in the car layout process. But since it is obvious that there is a considerable affinity of the tasks to design indoor cabins of cars and to design cockpits of aircrafts, the functionalities of RAMSIS shall be adapted to the needs of the aviation industry.
