The stress and strain relation of cast aluminum is very complicated under high temperature engine head application. The material behaviour is temperature dependent and very strain rate sensitive. Unified viscoplasticity considers simultaneously plasticity and creep offers the best, most accurate approach for a description of the stress and strain behaviour. For certain applications, when the needs of a speedy computation weighs more than accuracy, classical plastizity can be used to approximate the viscoplastic behaviour. In such situations, cautions must be exercised that since the classical models does not include strain rate effects, the material parameters for specific analysis should be decided case by case. It has been shown that the ABAQUS classical plasticity combined hardening model may be used captured observed phenomena. This model requires four users specified material constants. The combination of the two hardening models allow for the size of the yield surface to evolve as expansion or contraction with the inelastic deformation, and translate in the stress space. The combination of the kinemtic and isotropic hardening models allows for phenomena generally observed in cyclic plasticity such as the Bauschinger effect, ratcheting cyclic hardening and softening, plastic shakedown, and mean stress relaxation to be captured.
