The 8DM-21 diesel engine (power 1000 kW, crankshaft speed 1500/min) was used in 2000 in Russia as drive of the naval ADG-1000 generator for the emergency power supply. To meet the shipbuilding requirements, flue gas extraction and treatment, an increased off-gas counterpressure as well as necessary start-up reliability measures were introduced. An improved construction of increased reliability and durability (power 630 kW, now under testing) included corrosion-resistant pumps and pipelines for seawater cooling and can be used on ship heading in various climatic zones at temperatures from minus 40 deg C to 50 deg C.
