A RANSE solver is applied to several free-surface problems for ships. The RANSE solver is based on a Finite Volume Method with unstructured meshes and an interface-capturing scheme to determine the shape of the free surface. The method was extended with a user-programmed module to compute the body motions in six degrees of freedom. The applications are: The Series 60 hull in straight-ahead sailing condition as well as in a drift condition at a small yaw angle including trim, sinkage, and heel. The model of a very full hull with a blunt bow including trim and sinkage and a bow-wave breaking pattern. 2-D drop tests with a wedge. 2-D large amplitude roll motions of the mid-ship section of a boat. 3-D roll, pitch, say and heave motions of a sailing boat with forward speed released from an out-of-equilibrium state in calm water.
