Due to increasing demands on development time and functionale, the traditional development process has to be overcome by a modelbased development process. The latter offers many advantages concerning testing, evaluation and documentation resulting in lower time and cost requirements. However, this model-based development process is only feasible on condition of a proper simulation model and a suitable, adapted Application Product Interface. Today's automotive development processes are characterised by increasing technical requirements within a competitive market and therefore by a growing complexity regarding mechanics and electronics. On the electronic side, comfort and safety requirements such as climate control or dynamic stability control systems will lead to an increasing number of on-vehicle embedded systems with more and more software solutions using several distributed Electronic Control Units (ECUs). These ECUs are typically connected by a bus systern (e.g. CAN) so that testing of,the single ECU is by no means sufficient. We have realised a model- based drivetrain development process which here will be demonstrated for a Series Hybrid Electric Drivetrain (SHEDt). In this paper, the main steps of the modelling process are shown. As an example for implementation, functionality and reliability of the process, the SHEDt storage systern containing a DC / DC converter between DC link and battery is analyzed.
