Optimal mounting of engines is an important concern in automotive noise, vibration and harshness because of its enormous effect on the general pleasure of driving. The aim of this research was to optimise an engine mount system for the best vibration isolation taking into account various operational conditions, and by using the previously proposed mathematical models implemented in computer programs to predict the optimised characteristics of the rubber mountings used for a four-cyhnder, four-stroke engine in front-wheel-drive vehicles. These operational conditions include supporting engine weight, engine idling, starting and stopping, maximum torque, maximum power, maximum speed with load, and also wheel suspension inputs from the road surface. Time and frequency domain computer programs have been developedL Objective function values based on the dynamic forces transmitted to the support structure were then computed. Three dimensional representations were constructed for this objective function as a function of mount stiffness coefficients. Feasible design regions were identified.
