The architecture of electric/electronic is divided in 5 subjects. All of them have a rapid development. The standard power distribution systems are based an a single battery with a single voltage of 14V. New developments use 2 batteries together with an electric power system management. Further advanced electric systems use 42 V or a combination of 14 V/42 V. The requirements and advantages of these different systems are shown and compared. To distribute signals the standard bus systems CAN-C, CAN-B and a optical bus are normally used and represent a standard. To realize additional functions it is necessary to introduce sub busses. Concerning the architecture of electronic control units there is a tendency an chassis, engine and gearbox to integrate the controllers rather than have them separately in the cabin or in special ECU-boxes. Because of the complexity an the powertrain and chassis systems there is normally one designated controller for each functionality. A different situation can be found with the body controllers where a rather distributed hardware and software architecture can be found. The architecture of electronic control units is determined by a increasing amount of standards for hardware and software. Changes are expected in combination with the application of flat flexible cable and flexible printed circuit. Innovations concerning interior functions will be seen especially in the area of passive safety including the sensor systems. Active and passive safety are joined together more and more. Today driver authorization and anti theft protection are handled separately. Additional systems, for example tracking systems, are already introduced in USA.
