With the development and release of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) in recent years, the standardizing of HEV test procedures had been investigated at ISO. The measurement of fuel economy and exhaust emissions for HEVs includes two kinds of problems as the state of charge (SOC) of the energy storage device changes before and after the tests, and regenerative energy may be different between on-the-road conditions and during on-chassis dynamometer tests. To solve these problems and to ensure accurate evaluation of the fuel economy and exhaust emissions of HEVs, a number of correction methods were tested using HEVs. The main results of this study indicate that the problem of variation in SOC can be solved by the method of repeating driving mode continuously or approximating fuel consumption and current balance. Results also suggest that the difference in regenerative energy measured in the two types of tests is negligible and should therefore not be a source of concern.
