With the emergence of small quiet submarines that are able to operate in shallow confined waters, the focus of undersea warfare is rapidly shifting from post-World War II deep-water ASW operations to the littoral. While ASW has become more complex, crew sizes are becoming smaller. Meanwhile, technology advances of recent years are offering new capabilities.
