An overview is given on some of the techniques available for pipeline evaluation. An ongoing project to determine the condition of a 36 KM long, 100-year-old, 1200mm diameter cast iron pipeline system serving the greater Boston area is discussed. The techniques used in this project could serve as a model for inspection and evaluation of ageing utilities.
