Presents an approach using control system theory and software design aspects in system architecture development for developing a framework for an integrated traffic control system in Munich that could be easily transferable to other applications. UML was chosen to represent the major control paradigms and network levels identified in the reference phase and they were incorporated into the control models. As a result, a clear system architecture is presented which is consistent across all levels of development from the reference to the design and system implementation phases. Future work would be to find a clear description of a feedback process between the suggested design factors described in the paper in order to contribute to the theory of system architecture. This feedback process should provide a further improvement of the design implementation of the logical and physical system architectures in Munich.
