In the paper is presented and discussed some results of stability investigations of dc locomotive driving system. The investigations have been prepared for driving wheel-axis of the locomotive in respect to disturbances. A degree of damping is taken into consideration as a stability measure. The degree of damping is here a function of values of an equivalent electrodynamics damping and electromechanical stiffness of the investigated driving. On the earlier stages of works, with assistance of exploitation measurements and some numerical procedures, have been synthesised the equivalent electrodynamics coefficients of damping and stiffness for the individual locomotive drive in regard to disturbances. On this basis the damping degree values are determinated. These values enable to estimate the stability changes of investigated propulsive system during the whole starting process.
