Wrinkle behavior in forming various aluminum alloys for auto body panel was analyzed, and the following results are found: (1) Aluminum alloy generally forms more wrinkles than steel, especially 6000 series aluminum alloy has a tendency to form more wrinkles than 5000 series. (2) The reason for more wrinkles in 6000 series alloy is the lower break limit blank holding force and a drawbead restraining force in forming conditions, and smaller n and r values in mechanical properties. (3) 6000 series alloy with higher yield strength forms more wrinkles, so it is important to control the yield strength. (4) Even with 6000 series alloy, wrinkles can be controlled by adjusting suitable blank holding force, drawbead and blank shape. In future, in order to easily control wrinkles in forming aluminum sheet, it is hoped to establish a product design technology for increasing blank holding force and draw-bead restraining force and advance material development for increasing n and r values.
