In this study, a 66-inch diameter pipe with wall thickness varying from 0.375-inch to 0.75-inch was modeled. The pipe was subjected first to a five foot fault offset and then buried in a peak gravel trench. Through analysis, it was found that at a D/t ratio of 176, severe ovalization occurs, with buckling of the pipe walls; for a D/t ratio of 88, moderate ovalization still occurs. The pipe strains in the hoop direction due to ovalization are not excessive in either case.
