In July 2000, the newly refurbished ice-resistant Molikpaq platform produced oil through the single anchor leg mooring (SALM) into the newbuild double hull floating storage and offloading vessel (FSO) Okha. This landmark Sakhalin Island II development of the Piltun-Astokhskoye field, also represented the first oil produced anywhere in the world in an area subject to seasonal ice sheets. The wave deflector were also redesigned and the structure was stiffened to protect from earthquakes.
