There is a need for measurement of the motion and shape of liquid bodies (bubbles, drops, fluid columns and free liquid surfaces) in the fiels of fluid physics experiments. In the past the light sheet technique has been used to measure the change of position and shape of a fluid body via a cross section. But as a scanning technique, this measurement method is limited to steady-state phenomena or one cross section. It was therefore the topic of a technical development study for ESA/ESTEC to demonstrate the performance of a photogrammetry system which could measure the changing shape of liquid columns. Mechanical exication was chosen as an easy method to create shape changes of liquid columns. Mechanical excitation was chosen as an easy method to create shape changes of liquid bodies on Earth. We explain the evaluation procedures to determine the position and shape of the liquid bodies by photogrammetry. Finally, some results of the first experiments together with an outlook on future development are given.
