Smart electronic products are requested to work at certain environmental conditions in the engine compartment. Today's technology offer a wide range of possibilities, but all of them need to fit to the automotive industry needs. Cost, reliability, packaging, functionality...are, among others, the technology boundaries of the solutions for dealing electronics in this harsh environment compartment. This paper describes a new module concept, called 'cold box', that could eventually bring a friendly environment for smart products in the engine compartment, which will help to obtain a fully optimised electrical and electronic distribution system.
