Requirement in automotive industry is tending towards very high mechanical property steels. The paper presents some results showing the good formability of Dual Phase HSS produced by Sollac (450 to 750 MPa tensile strength level) in relation to conventional steels. The studies were conducted by means of some laboratory tests and press forming of some representative automotive parts (tower suspension, ..). The authors also show that springback problems can be solved by optimizing tool and process design. Dual Phase steels simultaneously allow to meet good formability and high yield strength on parts thanks to their high work hardening potential. This strengthening effect due to the stamping process of these steels leads to crash behaviour improvement and weight reduction.
