High tensile strength steel sheet has been applied for improvement of safety in automobile crash or reduction of car weight. In this field the application of high tensile strength steel sheets up to 590 MPa is expected lately, for further improvement of the crashworthiness and the weight reduction of the vehicle. The press formability of hot-rolled 1.4mm thin gauge advanced dual phase steel sheet with tensile strength of 590 MPa for automobile panels and parts was investigated. Hot-rolled thin gauge dual phase steel sheet with excellent mechanical properties has been developed by controlling secondary phase optimum. In punch stretching, the limit dome weight of advanced dual phase steel sheet consisting of ferrite phase and martensite phase was almost same as that of TRIP (transformation induced plasticity) steel sheet consisting of ferrite phase, bainite phase and austenite phase. Both advanced dual phase steel sheet and TRIP steel sheet showed superior formability compared with precipitation hardened steel sheet, especially in stretch forming and plain deformation.
