An experimental investigation of the fluid flow in a cowl box has been carried out using a full-scale transparent Plexiglas model. The primary objectives are to gain a better understanding of the cowl complex flow behaviour and to identify the major factors influencing the prevailing two phase flow field; particularly the effects of water levels within the cowl geometry on moisture ingress. Moreover, the results obtained are used to validate computational studies. A three dimensional computational model is used to perform a parametric study and to gain a better understanding of the rain droplet behaviour within the cowl space as well as rain droplet break-up.
