Precision inertial navigation system will begin undergoing flight tests soon in a usa boeing kc-135 transport at holloman afb. By the use of driftfree electrostatic gyros it is hoped to achieve unusually high accuracy in the absence of spurious torques that normally cause gyros to drift, thereby degrading their accuracy. These inertial sensors may record accuracies of about 0,001 deg/hr making possible an overall navigator accuracy of only a few tenths of a nautical mile for each hour of flight.
