A simplified mechanistic model is developed for the calculations of liquid accumulation at low points in multiphase pipelines. The model is assumed to be applied to low liquid/gas ratio systems, such as natural gas-condensate pipelines. The conditions for liquid accumulation in low points are based on the balance between gravitational forces and drag forces acting over a liquid surface. Estimation of interfacial shear stresses is performed similarly to the calculation of shear stress caused by the wind blowing over sea water. The Charnock formula for wave height on a liquid surface is used for the calculation of interfacial friction factor. The volume and length of liquid deposits are defined by the model. The transition to terrain slugging is shown to be independent of inclination of the upward section where slugging is going to occur. The Froude number, NFR and the value of gas density divided by liquid density, (DG/DL) are shown to be the major parameters governing the transition to terrain slugging.
