Project MILE (Methanol in Large Engines) is a multi-year Canadian and U.S. project to demonstrate the technical, economic and social feasibility of using methanol fuel in buses and trucks. The project was initiated in spring 1985, had its first vehicles operating in spring 1986 and is due to continue until summer 1988. Seven fleets of urban buses, intercity buses and highway trucks in Canada and the U.S. will be operating methanol vehicles by the end of 1986. The project is intended to provide a significant contribution to methanol engine development in the areas of durability, heavy truck applications, fuels formulations, aldehyde characterization and control, and safe fleet operations.
