The theoretical and experimental investigations relating to the performance and emission characteristics of a methanol fueled spark ignition engine with exhaust gas recirculation is described in this paper. The theoretical investigations include the duration of combustion, flame speed, rate of pressure rise, gas pressure and temperature, engine power and nitric oxide emissions, while those of the epxerimental studies not only deal with data needed for validating the model but also with data relating to the effect of exhaust gas recirculation on the fuel economy and nitric oxide emissions.
