The key to efficient use of robots lies in the development and proper implementation of software. This paper will focus on what software is currently available on a commercial basis, in the aerospace industry for the programming of robots and what the future trends may be. It will address two areas of important applications for robotic software. They are: on-line programming of robots and off-line programming of robots. It will also consider what the future may be for animation programs for robots and robot-tended work cells. The paper is descriptive and is not intended as a comparative evaluation of robotics software.
