RPV is a new direction at Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) Engineering. Some RPV concepts were analyzed in the early project stages. The range was from a High Reliability concept typical for A/C design and up to simple, low acquisition cost and unreliable flying models. Two concepts were selected for reliability evaluation: reliable but reasonably priced model (ARPV), and the least expensive and the least reliable model, but yet of equivalent operational performance (BRPV). The main reliability differences are in stand-by and functionally redundant devices, in military vs. mostly industrial components, in device screening, and maintenance (ARPV was assumed to have a BIT system).
