The blended elemental powder process offers substantial cost savings for the fabrication of titanium missile-structural components. In this investigation, the processing parameters for the blended elemental powder processing of the elevated temperature alloy Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo were established and the properties of the alloy were evaluated. The alloy had a density greater than 98 % of the theoretical and displayed excellent room temperature properties. However, a substantial loss of tensile properties, particularly ductility, occurred at elevated temperatures. A detailed scanning auger microprobe and scanning electron microscope evaluation of specimens fractured in-situ in a high vacuum revealed extensive porosity and the presence of NaCl particles in and around the pores. The origin of NaCl was traced to the starting titanium sponge, and the cause of the elevated temperature loss of ductility was determined to be hot salt stress-corrosion cracking. Since NaCl particles were mostly associated with the pores, it was speculated that the formation of the pores during sintering coule have resulted from the presence of this contaminant.
