The changes that have taken place in UK braking legislation recently are probably the most dramatic since braking rules were first introduced. However, it is clear from the foregoing that further improvements are being envisaged especially for heavy vehicles and that the way ahead is through technical adaptation brought about by amendment to the international braking standards. The UK government and industry are represented at these discussions and in general will continue to support initiatives which are seen to represent sound technical advance consistent with improvements in safety at an economic cost.
