In order to quantitatively analyze the aging effect of propulsion efficiency, the authors have introduced one of the methods of the said analysis using a total efficiency of the ship evaluated from the energy viewpoint. This method was applied to two vessels in service, one of which had a fixed pitch propeller and the other had a controllable pitch propeller, and the trend of aging effect between the two vessels was compared by means of regression analysis. By this analysis, it is concluded that trends of aging effect considerably differ from each other due to the differences of ship size and propeller type, and that the vessel with the controllable pitch propeller has less aging effect in this case.
