Methodology for selecting cycle parameters using advanced technology engine data is presented. This method was developed and refined during airframe design studies which used engine data designed to reduce the cost of ownership of new engines. Conventional methods of engine cycle selection are supplemented with additional parameters which weighed engine acquisition and operational costs. Using these data, aircraft performance and size penalties could be evaluated relative to overall system cost. Study results are shown for several high performance aircraft which are being evaluated as part of the joint USAF/USN Advanced Technology Engine Studies. (Wassmann)
