The Shuttle Reaction Control System propellant tanks incorporate surface tension acquisition/expulsion devices to achieve propellant and pressurant separation. The tanks supply monomethylhydrazine and nitrogen tetroxide propellants to the RCS thrusters during separation from the external tank, and during orbital, entry and abort phases of the Shuttle Orbiter mission. The performance verification approach is described. As a part of the verification approach innovative test methods were employed which permitted simulated low-g, on-orbit testing to be conducted in a relatively high-g ground environment. In addition, the paper describes the design, operation, and fabrication of this unique system for propellant management. (Kursetz)
